The IPAF Elevation conference and dinner has opened in Birmingham, UK today with 175 delegates registered.
Chief executive Peter Douglas opened the conference today with a comprehensive update on the Federation. It included growth in almost all areas, including membership – both international and in the UK home market. As well as the number of PAL cards issued, the number of people submitting accident reports, the number of trainees going with digital cards only – now 65 percent – and the number of IPAF app downloads.
He also touched on a new modular training course due in the new year and the early results form a new Customer Services Team.
Other speakers scheduled include:
Ben Hirst of Horizon Platforms told a story, with video footage, of a loading incident at his company that could have easily resulted in a fatality – encouraging the industry to be more open regarding incidents/accidents and ‘near misses’ so we can all learn from them
Note: IPAF has set up a new portal Share Your Story making it easier for others to do the same as Horizon has done.
-Safe MEWP Operations at Laing O’Rourke: Steve O’Brien of Laing O’Rourke
-PAL+ and Entrapment: Jim Colvin of Serious Industrial Motion Simulators (SIMS))
-Risks We Face: How Self-Talk Shapes Safety: Ben Hirs of Horizon and Darren Sutton of Behavioural Safety Services Training
